Post Op Instructions

Extractions

After your child has an extraction we recommend that he/she avoid sodas(anything carbonated) and straws for a minimum of 2 days.

Space Maintainer

Once your child has a space maintainer placed we recommend that he/she avoid sticky, chewy or hard candies for the lifetime of the appliance. Such foods could lead to a loose or broken appliance.

Sedation

After your child’s sedation appointment you can expect them to be sleepy. He/she will probably sleep for several hours. You will want to monitor them closely, please do not leave them in a room alone. If they decide to nap, make sure to place him/her on their side in case their stomach gets upset. You may give your child Tylenol or Motrin as needed for discomfort.

Numbness

The numbness may remain for several hours. Be sure to watch your child so he/she does not bite his/her tongue or cheek. It is best that your child wait to eat until after the numbness wakes up, if the patient must eat something please encourage them to be very careful when chewing. If your child experiences any swelling or pain from the numbness please do not hesitate to give us a call.
